The delivery of vegetable seeds to schools has kicked off.
The rains for the 1st planting season in Uganda are expected to start this March. With this at the back of our minds, Victoria Seeds (U) Limited the main program sponsor have started distributing vegetable seeds to schools participating in the School Gardening Project SPG 2022 way before the rains start. So far more than 50 schools have received their packages and several of them started with the seeding processes especially planting their nursery gardens.
Mr. Edward Kabali a teacher at Grace High School one of the schools that received their seeds first, highlighted that his students are very excited and interested about the project. He hopes to use their urban farming facility to teach his students about best practices in horticulture.
Another teacher at St. Mary’s College Kisubi SMACK after receiving their seeds said that their students have already rolled up their sleeves and are all hands-on deck. “The SMACK boys have already opened their land, booked their plots, and seeded their nurseries. In a few weeks from now, we shall be transplanting our seedlings to the main garden plots” Mr. Muteesa mentioned.
